Which division should my child play in?

Some simple guidelines follow:

1. Children who have not played a lot of chess should stay at their grade level.

2. However, if your child won a division trophy (top 3) during the previous season, we expect that he/she will move up to the next higher division.

3. In addition, some rough guidelines are the following. If your child ...

    is rated above 1000 then he/she should be in the K-12 open section.

    is rated above 800 then he/she should be in the K-5 section (or higher).

    is rated above 600 then he/she should be in the K-3 section (or higher).
