Westside Park Scholastic Chess Club

Spring Season Begins!


WHEN: Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm                   


WHERE: Westside Park Recreation Center, 1001 NW 34th St., Gainesville, FL

WHO: K-12 students and their parents

WHY: For children and adults to have fun and improve their chess skills

COST: $10 for each 3-hour club meeting (sibling entry for $5), or $80 for a season pass to all 10 club meetings plus a 50% discount for the Westside tournament (sibling season pass for $40). Season passes may be purchased online at www.spring2009westsideparkpass.eventbrite.com or onsite (with cash or check only).

PARENTS: You can either stay and play free with paying child or just drop off and pick up your child at (or before) 4:30pm. Your children will always be watched in a controlled environment by professionals.

SPRING CALENDAR: Will meet every Sunday (when there are no other conflicts, local tournaments, school holidays, etc). Each week will include various activities such as puzzles, lectures, other board games, and free play outside. General chess playing will always be allowed. Experienced chess coaches will be present to help with any questions of rules or strategy. The tentative spring calendar is as follows (see www.gainesvillechess.com for updated info):

           

Regular Club Meetings: 2/1, 2/15, 3/1, 3/8, 3/22, 3/29, 4/19, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24


Special events include:

April 26 - Westside Spring Championships, USCF rated tournament (all ages), day one

May 3 - Westside Spring Championships, day two

May 24 - Kid’s Bughouse and Blitz tournament (standard club fees apply)
